Captain Wendy Keelty, Division CommanderCaptain Wendy Keelty

The Investigative Services Division (ISD) is tasked with the investigation and follow-up of initial criminal investigations, forensic analysis of physical evidence, handling, storage and disposal of evidence and property, management of subsequent cases in a court of law, narcotics enforcement efforts, liquor control commission enforcement, youth crimes investigations and the School Resource Officer Program.

ISD is comprised of three sections: the Detective Section, the Narcotics Enforcement Section, and the Crime Scene/Identification Section. ISD is an aggressive and innovative division that prides itself in prompt and accurate results, leading to the apprehension of persons responsible for committing crimes in our city. ISD continues to work to solve crimes, capture criminals, and keep our community safe.

The Investigative Services Division (ISD) consists of three sections:

  • Detective Section

The Detective Section is comprised of men and women assigned as:

    • Crime Scene Investigator Section
    • Oakland County Homicide Task Force Detectives
    • High Tech/Internet Crimes Detectives
    • Victim Support Unit - Sex Offender Registry Detectives
    • Hostage Negotiators
    • Property Room
    • Youth Crimes

Detectives investigate crimes ranging from fraud and larceny, to autos, armed robberies and homicides. They track down and interview suspects and witnesses, arrange and attend polygraph exams, write supplemental reports, serve subpoenas, attend court proceedings, and present cases to the Prosecutor's Office to obtain arrest warrants. The main objective is seeing a case through to prosecution.

The High Tech/Internet Crimes Detectives actively pursue online child predators and child pornography distributors in an undercover capacity, as well as obtain felony warrants for computer theft. Our Detectives work closely with neighboring police departments, as well as the Oakland County Sheriffs Department, to share information and garner advice and assistance.

The Detectives assigned to the Victim Support Unit register convicted sex offenders quarterly and actively pursue warrants for offenders that fail to comply with State-mandated laws and parole terms set forth at sentencing. These Detectives develop a real working relationship with the Pontiac Parole Office to more quickly identify offenders and their current locations in the City.

The Youth Officers work closely with Probate Court and Pontiac School District officials in an effort to keep the juvenile population in check. During a Parental Support Effort, these officers, with the assistance of Detectives, apprehend juveniles violating curfew.

  • Identification Section

The Identification (ID) Section is responsible for investigating crime scenes, collecting evidence, recording inked fingerprints, photographing arrested felons, processing evidence for latent fingerprints, documenting crime scenes through photography, measurements and sketches, collecting and preserving castings of footwear and tire track impressions, and drawing presentation boards as visual aids for court.

  • Narcotics Enforcement Section

(NES) is instrumental in combating the sale and use of illegal drugs in our city.  Acting on tips called in by neighborhood associations, rental property managers, everyday citizens and confidential informants, NES Officers conduct surveillance, raid, arrest, and seize illegal drugs such as marijuana, cocaine, heroin, and cash forfeitures and guns.

In addition to time spent combating the ongoing war on drugs, NES Officers work diligently on Liquor Control Commission-mandated investigations, and carry out numerous decoy operations to curtail prostitution in the city.
